727. Alain Robert Dupeyre [scrapbook] (Harriet Rew Nichols , Harriet Campbell Rew , Harriet Brady Campbell , George Whitaker , William , Whitaker ) was born on 5 Jan 1926 in Nantes, France. He died on 24 Apr 1997 in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut. He was buried on 27 Apr 1997 in Essex - Riverview Cemetery, Middlesex, Connecticut.
Alan received his early schooling at the Hines School and the Lycee at Paris, France. He attended the public schools at Tucson, Arizona, and Santa Monica, California. His name was legally changed to ALAN DUPEYRE LOGAN in 1938 when he was adopted by his stepfather at Tucson, Arizona. When he became a naturalized citizen of the U.S.A. in 1944 at Los Angeles, California, his name became simply ALAN LOGAN. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was sent to engineering school at the University of Redlands at Redlands, California, graduating in 1948. He received a BS degree in Engineering and a MA degree in Economics from Stanford University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1951.
Alan served as a career Foreign Service Officer in the American Foreign Service in more than 12 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe from 1951 to 1982. He was U.S. Counsel at Taipei, Island of Formosa; Beirut, Lebanon; Tunis, Tunisia; and was Counsel General at Durban, South Africa. He was Ambassador to __________.
Alan was a member of the Seven Seas Crusing Association and the Ocean Crusing Club. On his 40-foot yacht Katy II, he sailed the Mediterranean, circumnavigated the Atlantic Ocean in 1986, and expolred the White Sea. His sailboat was the first American yacht to sail around the Black Sea in 1990. His sailing adventures have been chronicled in several sailing magazines. He devoted the last ten years of his life to opening Russian inland waterways to foreign yachts in an effort to promote economic development.
The Logans lived at Essex, Connecticut and at Sanary s/Mer, France.
Alain married Nicole Prevost daughter of Georges Simeon Aime Prevost and Raymonde Suzanne Houel on 25 Feb 1952 in Bangkok, Thailand.
