William was the teacher of a boy's school in the immediate vicinity of an old Colonial Church in King and Queen County called "Mattapony." He walked to his school every morning and attended service at the church on Sunday. "Letters from him to the different members of the family were written in a fine clear hand and sound serious, religious, almost morbid in their advice for calm Godly lives."

58. Benjamin S. Campbell (Benjamin , Whitaker ) was born on 15 Sep 1811 in Mercer, Kentucky. He died on 24 May 1901.

At the age of two he came to Christian County, Kentucky, where he was reared and educated. He was a merchant in Hopkinsville for many years. In 1854 he moved to a farm about four and a half miles from Hopkinsville. He was a staunch Republican, a member of the Christian Church, and well known and esteemed throughout the county.

Benjamin married Maria Starling in near Russelville, Logan, Kentucky. Maria was born on 21 Nov 1813. She died on 11 May 1897.
