ULICK STAUNTON lived either in Dublin or more likely in Ballinrobe, a small market town in the barony of Kilmaine, County of Mayo, and province of Connaught. The town is east of "Lough Mask" on National Highway 40, about 30 miles north of Galway.
Before his marriage, Ulick Staunton is believed to have inherited about 5,000, which was a large sum of money in those days.
Soon after the birth of their first two children in Ireland, the family emigrated to St. Louis, Missouri about the year 1880. Ulick Staunton apparently changed his last name to Stanton sometime after he became a naturalized citizen at Saint Louis, Missouri, on September 22, 1885. They moved to Chicago, Illinois, about 1886 or 1887. At Chicago, he was employed as a motorman on the electric trolley, and then as a horse and wagon driver for the Wieland Dairy. He was retired for many years. The family first lived on the west side on Congress Street. In 1905 they moved to 644 Grace Street on the north side near Lake Michigan.
Mary's parents emigrated to Australia. After her husband's death, she lived at Chicago for another 20 years until she died at her home at 2050 North Birchwood Avenue, age 94. The Stanton's are buried in Section D of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois.
