27. Gisela Mietling (Gertrud Doris Schilling , Franz Friedrich August , Heinrich Konrad , Christoph Adam ).  Gisela married Hans Neuhaus son of Wilhelm Neuhaus and Johanna Schlieper on 9 Sep 1939 in Dresden, Germany. Hans was born on 5 Mar 1913 in Dortmund, Westfallen, Germany.  He died on 25 Jan 1997.

After graduating from high school, Hans joined the 100,000 man German Army as a cadet at Rastenburg in Eastern Prussia in 1932. By 1938 he was an instructor at the War College in Dresden. There he met Gisela Mietling in 1939, and they were married just as the German war effort began. Hans headed a mortar company with horse and wagon, and was a Company Commander in Poland and France. During the fighting in 1940 he was wounded when a cannon he was standing near was hit and exploded with a loud crash and killing others. This incident caused a loud, buzzing noise in his ears that continued for the rest of his life. Hans was soon promoted to Captain and sent to the Staff College in Berlin where he graduated in 1942. He was next sent to the Russian Front as a general staff officer in logistics. After another promotion to Major, he was sent to the invasion front to provide logistical support for General Rommel. During this period he was made aware by Rommel of the secret internal plot against Hitler. He worked in the background to help this effort which later failed. After a further promotion to Lt. Colonel, he was wounded during a spitfire attack. In the same attack, Rommel suffered a complicated fracture of his pelvis after a direct hit on his pistol. As the German Army retreated from France during the fall of 1944, he filled in for a 4-Star General for logistics in the counter attact to the Ardennes Offensive.

In April 1945, he was taken prisoner in the Rhur area and sent to several American POW camps along the Rhine River. The weather was cold and wet, and the conditions in the camps were horrible. However, while in an American POW camp in France, Hans made watercolor paintings of the forests. After the end of the war he was released in 1946. He was 1.87 meters tall and weighed only 45 kilos. It was difficult to find a job since he and many other Germans were regarded a war criminals. So he worked for the British Occupation Army for a year or so. By this time he was reunited with his wife and young son. Hans next turned to selling hardware, fountain pens, and car top textiles. In 1953, following rumors that a new army under the European Defense Community might be formed, he went to Bonn to enlist. But the French objected to the plan, so he became an advisor to the _________ Office which in 1954 sent him to Paris for one year as one of 5 representatives.

He was one of the first nine German officers sent to Paris for the ________ and spent 3 years at Fountainbleau. Next he served as an instructor at the General Staff Academy in Hamburg as a full Colonel. From mid 1955 to mid 1956, he served a tour of duty at the Ministry of Defense at Bonn. In 1957 he was sent to Coronado, California, to attend a school where NATO country officers were being trained in triphebious warfare (coordinated joint land, sea, and air operations). After another tour of duty at Fountainbleau in 1958, he was assigned to the Military Staff College at Hamburg as an instructor in triphebious warfare.

In December 1961, he was sent to Washington, D.C. where he worked for the German Diplomatic Service in the German Embassy. In September 1962 he was called back to Germany for a tour of duty at the Army Command Center at Koln. He next served as a liasion officer to the British Army on Rhine at ________, and finally at NATO Headquarters in Holland and Belgium. Hans retired from military service in 1967 and moved to a home in southern France near Cannes.
